Hey everyone! I hope this finds you happily embracing fall colours and cooler weather wherever you are. Here on the prairies, we could do without the strong winds but I guess that means less raking of leaves. LOL! It's a busy time 'round here. We've been putting the yard to bed, recovering from pneumonia (me) and renovations, watching the Blue Jays make it to the World Series, traveling to BC for family, trying to get in a bit of hunting and putting new music out.
I've just added my second song slice off the album 'Love After All". Slow Down is a rockier song, and tells of my first unexpected encounter with alcohol. I was with my grandmother at her cabin nestled in the hills of Buffalo Pound Lake. The song features the fabulous guitar work of Rich McFarlane of Prince Albert. I hope you check it out!
Conundrum....
Over the last little while I have been deciding if I want my new music on Spotify. I know it is most popular with folks, but it is also one of the worst streaming platforms for independent artists. Without getting into too much detail, Spotify pays artists the lowest rates for streaming. They create artificial music and are also suspected of scraping bits from songs on their platform, (without permission or acknowledgement), to add to their "data bank" for creating new AI music. The most upsetting aspect for me is the fact they have taken some of their profits from streaming artists' music, to support AI weaponry to be used on battlefields. Spotify claims that this technology called "Helsing", will only be used by democracies but I wonder if the highest bidders will do. They also run ICE Recruitment ads and I have a difficult time with that. I'm sorry to be political here but it is more of an ethical decision for me. I know many artists want the exposure afforded to them by the ginormous Spotify, but are actually taking their music off the platform or are seriously considering it. Yes, I am a small fish in this pond, but it I am leaning towards using other digital platforms and NOT Spotify.
So, the best way to support independent artists is to purchase physical copies of their music, buy it online or attend shows. If you want to support my music by purchasing a copy of any of my 3 CD's, you can contact me either through this site, Facebook Music page, or this email!
And....
For those who don't know me that well, I love pheasant hunting! This, along with making music, is one of my great passions. I have a devil of a hunting dog named Sage. She is a Brittany and lives to find birds Even if I never pull the trigger, walking outside on the prairie and watching her do what she was bred to do, fills my soul. Here is a recent picture of Sage in her party dress!

Thanks for taking the time to read!
